AFS 382 - Race, Ethnicity and the Environment A historical survey of how African Americans, Mexican Americans, and Asian Americans have been the victims of injustice in the way their environments were violated beginning in the nineteenth century. To better understand the birth of the environmental justice movement, we will engage sources about the history of various people’s relationship to nature and how they used their knowledge of the environment forged greater community awareness following the civil rights movement. We will also attempt to understand the values that certain cultural groups place on the environment.
